Following up Wednesday's impressive Q1 earnings report, Facebook announced Thursday its acquisition of Finnish startup ProtoGeo Oy, the maker of the mobile motion-tracking application Moves.
Moves tracks a users movements by gathering data gleaned from a phone's accelerometer. It then simplifies the data into segments to show the user how much they've moved and by what means.
The price tag for the buyout has not yet been disclosed, but speculation is that this will be one of the social network's cheaper purchases.
Moves joins Facebook's burgeoning family of mobile apps, however Moves said on its website the app will continue to function independently and will not "commingle data" with Facebook:

During an earnings call on Wednesday, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the importance of building a mobile ecosystem, and how it fits with the company's long-term goal of creating a connected world.
